TESTIMONIAL

“I’ve known Mary for more than 30 years. Through the good, the hard and everything in between, she has always been the friend who goes above and beyond. Thirty years tells you who someone really is. This is who Mary is.” — Connie Cloy

TESTIMONIAL

“When someone else is hurting, Mary’s instinct is to show up—with love, support and kindness. She has done that for people again and again. Now she needs a kidney, and for once, she needs all of us to show up for her." - Molly Carr

Mary's Health Journey

I have lived with kidney disease since I was 19 years old.

Not 39. Nineteen.

My brother John and I inherited hypophosphatemic rickets from our mother. The disease has affected all three of us differently, but for me it brought years of high blood pressure, protein in my urine—and eventually kidney failure. For most of those years, I never imagined dialysis and a transplant were where this road was headed.

Then the road got very real.

I have now spent more than two years on dialysis and the national transplant waiting list. Hemodialysis was brutal on my body. I eventually moved to peritoneal dialysis, but there have been moments along the way when I genuinely thought I might not survive.

Dialysis is keeping me alive. It is also taking a huge bite out of the life I am trying to save.

I am 47 and still working full time. My mother and John have serious health struggles of their own and need me, too. I want to be there for them. I want to watch my friends’ children grow up. I want to travel again. I want to keep helping people in healthcare.

And I still want the chance to become a foster mom.

I have people to love. People to help. A family I still hope to build.

What I need is a kidney—and someone willing to wonder whether they could be the one.

There are no words big enough for someone who might save my life.

But I can make one promise: You won’t just save me. You’ll gain a sister and a friend for life.
